The career goal of Art Thompon III is to make Michigan a better place via technology.

In his current position as the chief information officer with the City of Detroit, Thompson leads more than 150 IT staff members while managing an annual budget of more than $61M for information technology, cybersecurity, and community technology and advancement.

In addition, he is a board member of Connect 313 whose mission is to help Detroiters gain access to the internet, technical support, and resources for learning, employment and well-being. In 2025, the organization led a project connecting over 450 housing units through the Detroit Housing Commission.

A resident of New Hudson, Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in supply chain management from Eastern Michigan University.
