For more than a decade, Jessica Cortez has specialized in the mental health treatment of children and adolescents. She works as both a home-based therapist and as the founder of Bloomfield and Family Counseling in Troy and Farmington Hills, which focuses on treating children and teens.

Cortez started as a solo practitioner but noticed that parents needed more tangible tools to help their children. So, she developed Parent Strategy, a recurring series of presentations she gave to parents – free of charge – at schools and libraries. She has also introduced mindfulnees and coping skills programs at Ferndale Elementary School and will roll out the initiative in Farmington Hills and Bloomfield Hills later this year.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Michigan. She is the featured family therapist expert on the Oakland County Friend of the Court SMILE program, and she published a child therapy workbook: “The Thinking Traps: A Team of Troublesome Thoughts.”

Cortez lives in Bloomfield Hills with her husband and two children.
